Will LMNT break my fast?Updated 7 months ago

The short answer: No, LMNT will not break your fast. But let’s dig into why.

Electrolytes are minerals, so they don’t contain calories. In fact, fasting increases electrolyte needs, and consuming sodium during a fast can help prevent muscle cramps, fatigue, and headaches.

Calories, on the other hand, break a fast by increasing blood sugar and provoking an insulin response. But it depends on the amount of calories consumed, and the type. And most electrolyte powders are full of sugar, which will spike your blood sugar.

This is one of the reasons we made LMNT zero-sugar. With only 1-2 grams of carbs and 5-10 calories per stick pack, LMNT won’t raise your blood sugar — and won’t break your fast. If you want to avoid all calories during a fast, our Raw Unflavored drink mix is just the basics: sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
